Today’s Picks (27-33-1 record on the season):
Rangers +140 vs. Astros
It’s hard to imagine the Rangers falling victim to a four game sweep against their division rival, even if these teams do seem to be trending in opposite directions this season.
Cubs -1.5 vs. Phillies
John Lackey is a better pitcher than his current 5.10 ERA.
Rockies -105 vs. Padres
Ian Desmond has gotten off to a hot start for Colorado, batting .357 since returning to the diamond.
Mets -135 vs. Braves
Although Harvey struggled last night, Jacob deGrom is poised to blossom as the new ace of the Mets.
Giants vs. Dodgers over 7.5
The first two games of this series have gone over.
Orioles +1.5 vs. Red Sox
MLB’s hottest rivalry should give us a close game.
Rockies vs. Padres over 7.5
I fully expect the Colorado bats to come alive against Trevor Cahill.
Red Sox -1.5 vs. Orioles
Chris Sale is pitching too well to not be winning more ballgames- it’s time for the Sox lineup to step up.
Mets -105 vs. Braves
Matt Harvey has shown signs of his old self thus far and a suddenly hot Mets offense should put up runs against R.A. Dickey.
Dodgers vs. Giants over 6 runs
Cueto against Kershaw should be a treat but 6 runs seems far too low of a bar to set, especially against the San Francisco bullpen.
Rangers vs. Astros over 8.5
Same goes for this game, where two explosive offenses will likely be able to muster up 9 total runs.
Cardinals -150 vs. Brewers
Unfortunately for Eric Thames, the Brewers will not be playing the Reds today.
Dodgers -130 vs. Giants
The Dodgers will not lose 3 out of 4 to the lowly Giants. Wunderkind Julio Urias is set to take the mound for LA.
Red Sox -180 vs. Yankees
Is today the day Chris Sale finally gets some run support?
Indians -200 vs. Astros
Cleveland is clicking on all cylinders right now and that should continue against Mike Fiers.
Twins vs. Rangers under 9 runs
Cole Hamels going up against Hector Santiago should make for a low scoring affair.
With two of the three games I picked getting rained out last night, I’m rolling those picks over to tonight. That means I’ve got Mets ML vs. Braves and Red Sox ML vs. Yankees tonight.
Mets -120 vs. Braves
It’s time for the Mets to get back on track and with Yoenis Cespedes expected to return to the lineup, they should do just that.
Red Sox -115 vs. Yankees
Boston opens up the rivalry at home with last year’s AL Cy Young winner taking the mound.
Cubs vs. Pirates under 7.5
Don’t let last night’s offensive barrage fool you, Kyle Hendricks vs. Gerrit Cole should be a low scoring affair.
Blue Jays +1.5 vs. Angels
Slowly but surely, the Jays are beginning to turn around their horrific start. I expect that to continue tonight.
Rockies -140 vs. Nationals
Colorado made one hell of a statement in beating down the Giants last week and I anticipate them staying hot against the MLB best Nationals.
Rays -120 vs. Orioles
Chris Archer is 2-0 with a 3.20 ERA so far this season.
Giants vs. Rockies under 10 runs
Johnny Cueto and Tyler Chatwood will be able to keep scoring to a minimum, even in Coors Field.
Cubs -195 vs. Reds
It’s about time for the Cubs to start turning the corner against the bottom of the NL Central.
Astros vs. Rays over 8 runs
Lately, the Rays have been in the habit of playing in high scoring games. This trend should continue against the potent Astros lineup.
Mets -1.5 vs. Phillies
Noah Syndergaard looks to build on his 0.95 ERA against the Phillies, whom the Mets typically beat up on.
Cardinals ML vs. Brewers
Carlos Martinez is a Cy Young Sleeper. He currently has 24 strikeouts in 17.2 innings pitched.
Red Sox vs. Blue Jays under 7.5
Chris Sale has been dominant thus far and I expect nothing to change against the Jays. This should be a low scoring contest.
Brewers vs. Cubs over 7
Tommy Milone and Kyle Hendricks have both struggled thus far. After an impressive offensive outing for both teams last night, Milwaukee and Chicago should be able to reach 7 runs.
Giants ML vs. Royals
Expect Madison Bumgarner to notch his first win of the season in Kansas City.
Red Sox ML vs. Blue Jays
Rick Porcello’s 7.56 ERA should drop against the lowly Jays.
White Sox +1.5 vs. Yankees
New York’s luck has to run out at some point. Can’t keep expecting Chase Headley to over around a .400 batting average forever.
Rangers ML vs. Athletics
Yu Darvish against the A’s lineup seems like a mismatch. I expect a big night out of the Rangers offense.
Cardinals ML vs. Pirates
The Starling Marte suspension will serve as a distraction for Pittsburgh as the Cardinals bounce back from a rough first two weeks of the season.
Rockies vs. Giants over 6.5
Patiently waiting for Colorado’s offense to wake up.
Mets +1.5 vs. Marlins
I feel good about Rob Gsellman’s ability to bounce back from a rocky first start. The Mets offense is clicking on all cylinders.
Cubs ML vs. Dodgers
Look for the Cubs to take the rubber match in what could be another NLCS preview.
Rays +1.5 vs. Yankees
It’s hard to see a depleted Yankees lineup doing much damage against Blake Snell, though it will be interesting to see Jordan Montgomery’s MLB debut.
Dodgers vs. Cubs over 7.5
These two explosive offenses should be able to put up 4 runs a piece on Brendan McCarthy and an aging John Lackey.
Blue Jays -1.5 vs. Brewers
Toronto is due to break out of their terrible start and with Marcus Stroman on the mound, tonight feels like the night to do it.
Rangers ML vs. Angels
The Angels offense is due to slow down a bit and Cole Hamels seems like just the man to help them. The Texas offense should tee off of Tyler Skaggs.
Orioles vs. Red Sox under 9.5
Half of the Red Sox lineup is currently dealing with the flu, which makes it tough to see them putting up a bunch of runs. On top of that, Dylan Bundy was impressive in his last start, allowing only 1 earned run in 7 innings pitched.
Indians -1.5 vs. White Sox
James Shields going up against Carlos Carrasco. Lock it in.
Red Sox ML vs. Tigers
Chris Sale vs. Justin Verlander should be a treat. I give the edge to Sale, who is my pick for the AL Cy Young.
Mets -1.5 vs. Phillies
Jacob deGrom has a career 7-0 record against the Phillies. Advantage Mets.
Cubs -1.5 vs. Dodgers
The Cubs will be unveiling their championship banner tonight and I don’t think the home fans will leave disappointed. Look for Chicago to carry the momentum into a big victory against the Dodgers.
Red Sox vs. Tigers under 8.5 runs
Rainy and windy weather makes me nervous for Steven Wright’s knuckleball, but Michael Fulmer should build off his stellar rookie season from a year ago.
Rockies ML vs. Dodgers
I’m excited to see Colorado’s offense at home against Hyun-Jin Ryu. The Rockies are looking to make a statement against the division favorite.
Blue Jays -1.5 vs. Rays
Despite a lackluster beginning to the season against the Orioles, the Blue Jays are looking seize momentum after their victory last night. Their offense showed flashes of its potential in their 5-2 win.
Cubs ML vs. Cardinals
Big John Lackey will control the Cardinals offense as the Cubbies finally have a breakout day with the bats. The defending champions do not want to start the season losing two of three to their rival.
Tigers -1.5 vs. White Sox
James Shields went 4-12 with a 6.77 ERA after being traded to the White Sox last year. Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez are eager to help him ring in the new season.
Mariners +1.5 vs. Astros
The Mariners are a sexy pick to reach the postseason this year and while you can’t win the division in April, you can certainly lose it. The Astros learned this lesson last season- don’t expect Seattle to make the same mistake.
Dodgers -1.5 vs. Padres
Don’t expect LA to get shut out two nights in a row. In fact, their offense will explode against Trevor Cahill and a blister-less Rich Hill should keep San Diego’s AAA offense from doing much damage.
Blue Jays vs. Orioles over 8.5
Although J.A. Happ is on the mound, both teams should be able to scratch 5 runs a piece with their loaded offenses. Toronto needs to score before they get to Baltimore’s bullpen.
Rangers ML vs. Indians
I don’t expect the Rangers to get swept to begin the season. Cole Hamels should have an impressive debut.
Mariners ML vs. Astros – Loss
Rangers +1.5 vs. Indians – Win
Yankees ML vs. Rays – Win
Rockies -1.5 vs. Brewers – Win
Blue Jays vs. Orioles over 8.5 – Loss
Red Sox ML vs. Pirates – Win
Rays ML vs. Yankees – Win
Giants vs. Diamondbacks under 8.5 – Loss
Cubs vs. Cardinals over 7 – Push
